In a two run game the Caracas Leones got by the Tampico Stogies by the score
of 3 to 1.
Caracas came up with all the runs they needed in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. After two were out Bill Mueller was the sparkplug
when he banged out a single. Gary Sheffield stepped into the batter's box
and he smacked a single. Carlos Delgado then lost the ball over the fence
for three runs (his 15th of the season). The game was a scoreless duel until
the 8th inning.
Tim Worrell(2-2) went 1 inning allowing 1 run for the victory. Scot Shields
gained credit for his 11th save. Carl Pavano(6-10) was charged with the
loss.
Caracas now has a record of a division leading 56-41. With the loss, the
Tampico ballclub's record is 43-54.
